Newmarket
We sand and refinish worn hardwood floors and stairs in Newmarket, and install new hardwood and engineered floors when refinishing isn't the right answer. We're based in town, so the free visit is easy to fit in.
In Newmarket's older homes near downtown it's common to find solid oak strip flooring under carpet that has been down for decades. After staples and tack strip are pulled, many of those floors sand back beautifully. In the 1980s to 2000s subdivisions, the usual picture is site-finished or prefinished oak on the main floor, worn grey in traffic lanes, with carpeted stairs that owners want to change to wood.
We check which applies at the visit, including the wear layer on engineered floors, and tell you plainly.
Stairs are often the hardest part of the job: treads, risers, nosings and railings are sanded by hand and detail sanders. If you're moving from carpet to wood stairs, we look at whether the existing treads can be refinished or need new treads and risers. We apply stain samples on your own floor so you can choose the colour in your light, and we go through finish options and their drying and cure times so you can plan when rooms come back into use.
For new floors we check the subfloor for flatness and squeaks, let the material acclimate in your home, and lay it out so the rows run cleanly through doorways and halls. When a wall comes out, we can often weave new boards into the existing floor and refinish everything together so it reads as one floor. Trim and transitions are finished by our finish carpentry team.

Often, yes. Once the carpet, pad, staples and tack strip are removed, we check the boards for damage, thickness and old repairs. Solid oak strip floors from older Newmarket homes frequently sand back well.
Yes. We sand and refinish treads, nosings and railings and stain them to match. Where carpeted stairs have plain treads underneath, we tell you whether new hardwood treads and risers are the better option.
It depends on the finish. We give you the drying and cure times for the finish you pick in your written quote, so you know when you can walk on it and when furniture and rugs can go back.
